Cayo Costa home rentals

Welcome

Come enjoy our unique home with a 9 mile view of the Gulf of Mexico, on Cayo Costa Island, Florida

About Us

Cayo Costa is a barrier Island located 6 miles west of Pine Island, Florida. It measure 10 miles long by 1 mile wide. Located in the chain of barrier islands of Sanibel, Captiva, Upper Captiva, Cayo Costa "La Costa Island", Boca Grande Islands. Close to Cabbage Key and Useppa Islands, in Pine Island Sound.

Cayo Costa Island is a "boat in~ boat out" island only, that is "off the grid".  Alternative energy is our source of power and adequate energy is available for normal to light electrical use.  The property has a fresh water well, and a mound septic system.

Cayo Costa Beach runs approximately 10 miles from end to end.  The beach wraps around the south and north tip of the island.  You can walk 12 miles on the beach, undisturbed.  The beach is a islsolated as it is beautiful.  Many times one can go there and truly be all by yourself!  It is often referred to the "best kept secret in South Florida".  The house has a 9 mile view from the top observation deck.  View of the Gulf of Mexico, Boca Grande, Pine Island Sound, and Upper Captiva.  Useppa, and Burnt Sotre Marina.  We have an abundant wildlife.  Eagles, Osprey, Great Horn Owls, White Pelican and many rare coastal birds.  WE have Sea Turtles, Land Tortise, Dolphin, Manatee, Tarpon, and much more!

~If you are a lover of nature~

You will enjoy your time on Cayo Costa Island.  We say it is like plugging in your internal battery to connect to our Earth Qi (the circulating life force) from Mother Earth and the Sea...... The shelling is like a deep meditation.  You get deep in the hunt and let go of your stress that you had when you came.  The shelling is the best in the Gulf Coast.  Like Sanibel was many years before they were connected by the Causeway.

There is a lagoon on the gulf side.  The best fishing is at the cut, where the gulf feeds into the lagoon.  Watch the tides and pick the best time to fish for the day.

Tap in to Living off the Grid

The one love about this Island experience is that you feel like you are going back in time. But not sacrificing any amenities of home.   We are so obsessed  with our electronics, TV and internet.  This experience give us an excuse to let go and smell the scent of the Sea.  It is like a magic potion. It is addictive.  Once you come here you always desire to come back.

House Questions

Mindful Reminders

We ask that you do not use hair dryers, curling ~or~ flat irons,  or heavy electrical pulling equipment. You can use computers, cell phone chargers, and  lights and fans when needed.  Please be mindful on your usage.  "Waste not~Want not!"  If not in use, or in the room, just remember to shut it off.  Don't leave the TV's, fans, or lights on if you are not using them.  The best time to shower is mid day when you have full sun. Limit your water usage, since the pump is one of the largest pulls on the System.  If you are mindful, you will always have adequate power.  If not you will hear the generator run.  It is not the Cayo Way.  Quiet and living from the Sun's energy  is a very fulfilling feeling! You may want to bring some bug spray if you are visiting in the months that are most populated by no~se`ums and mosquitos. They are most active in the months from late May to early November.

What to Expect

Our Sand Dollar home is set up for Island living.  We have 4 levels of outdoor living spaces.  On the ground level under the house is an outdoor shower.  Great to wash off after coming back from the beach.  The flooring is concrete, which makes it clean and cool.    There are storage closets for our propane water heater and our batteries for the house.  We have a generator in a separate shed behind the house.   We keep our propane tanks on the back side, on the ground.  Our appliances are propane powered.  We have a fresh water well for your water source, powered by an electric pump.  We have a gas grill on the main level. 2- T.V.'s, and a DVD/CD players. Stereos on main and sky room levels. Upon your arrival we will have the Club Car at the dock with the key in it for your use while on the Island. We supply bath towels but ask that you bring your own beach towels.  We have beach chairs and an umbrella for your beach time.
